In most cases in translation practice there is a need for notarization of the translated document, as an official confirmation of the correctness and accuracy of the translation. In accordance with Article 79 of the Law of Ukraine “On Notaries”, a translation is considered notarized when the notary checks the translator’s qualification and certifies the authenticity of his/her signature.
Sometimes, it is necessary to notarize the correctness of the copy of the translated document along with the certification of the translation. In such case, the notary performs two notarial actions simultaneously – certifies the authenticity of the translator’s signature and photocopy of the original document. In this case, a notarized copy of the document is stitched together with the translation, and the original remains, so to speak, by itself. Of course, in order to certify a copy, the notary must be presented with the original of the document.
